Art-Xscape’s venue is the Wyndham Garden Hotel and Woodward Convention Center, at 3401 South IH 35, in Austin, TX. It’s one block north of the US71-IH35 interchange on the northbound access road at the intersection of Woodward and IH35.
If you are arrive on Thursday, check-in for Art-Xscape will be from 2pm to 5pm in the Lake LBJ room. You will receive your welcome bag with several goodies, your class passes and lunch pass (if you paid for lunch), and your schedule. You can check into the hotel any time after noon. If you arrive on a day other than Thursday, you will need to arrive for check-in between 8-9am and go straight to the Lake LBJ room to check-in.
Class starts at 9am Friday, Saturday and Sunday and goes until 5pm. You have an hour and a half for lunch starting at 1pm. If you would like to venture out for lunch, there are a number of restaurants a short drive from the hotel. The front desk is happy to provide driving directions and recommendations if you need them.
Thursday evening, the Art-Xscape opening reception starts at 5pm in the Lake Travis room. There is a light meal served buffet style. You will get to meet the faculty, see samples of their work and we’ll have a bit of fun. Friday evening from 7-8:30pm we’re getting together for trades at our Ice Cream Social. Saturday from 6:30-9pm, we’re holding our Art Market. If you would like to sell something, get in touch!
The Art-Xscape office will be open daily from 8pm to 5pm. You can place an order for supplies and pick them up in the office. You can also purchase collage supplies and Art-Xscape swag in the office.
Don’t want to cart a bunch of art supplies on the plane? We have a Jerry’s Artarama that has a good stock of art supplies, including paints, papers, brushes, glues, pens and more! I confirmed they have stuck in the Yupo paper that Cathy Taylor’s class requires and Pinata inks. There are Hobby Lobby, Michael’s and Jo’Ann fabrics within 5 miles of the hotel, so you will be able to locate anything you would prefer not to cart from home.
Closer to the date, I’ll start providing weather reports. Right now, we’re see-sawing between right at 80 degrees and 50 degrees for high temps. We’re in the midst of a big drought, but have had a few showers. You won’t see anyone more excited than an Austinite if we get significant rain while you are in town!
